Wunderlist Task Management: Give Your Brain a Present

Damn, what was I supposed to do today?  It was important – that much I can remember.  Was it ‘procrastinate instead of preparing for group meeting’?  Nope, did that.  ‘Take a two hour lunch because it’s Friday’?  Did that, too.  Oh yeah!  I was going to make a to-do list…

Our brains are stressed enough without having to remember every fleeting idea or potential task that rolls through our head.  In fact, most of us are unaware of how much basal stress we carry around simply trying to remember upcoming deadlines and events we’re supposed to take care of.  Luckily, organizational guru David Allen has created a few systems to manage the tasks and free your brain.  While we highly recommend reading his book, Getting Things Done, you don’t need to be a DA convert to appreciate the value of a good to-do list.

While there are plenty of web-based to-do list managers, there’s something to be said for a desktop version (great for planes, trains and automobiles) that can easily sync with mobile devices for lists on the go.  One of our favorite (and free!) task management systems is Wunderlist from 6Wunderkinder.  The software allows for easy drag-and-drop prioritization of tasks and provides the ability to add notes to each individual task.

Need to manage several lists (future experiments, things to remind my PI of every time we meet, groceries…)?  No problem.  Wunderlist’s intuitive interface allows for the creation of as many lists as you need and shows how many tasks each contains.

.

So if you’re like most of us and feel that your brain is drowning amidst a sea of responsibilities, tasks and ideas, let Wunderlist do the heavy lifting from now on and give your head a rest.  Your brain will thank you.

.

Ever tried Wunderlist or any other task management software?

You won't regret it! And even in the small chance that you don't like it, it's so easy to setup that you will have only wasted about 10 minutes. Well worth the risk.

I have to say, I need this. I have about 40 little pieces of paper or sticky notes, all over my desk, purse, fridge you name it!

This looks great! I've been fighting-somewhat unsuccessfully-to stay on top of all the little aspects of my projects. Looking forward to trying it out!

Yeah, I'm a huge fan too. Have you tried syncing lists yet? You can share lists with people so that you both can add stuff to it ("reagents to order", "groceries", etc.).

It looks nice maybe we'll try it too. We've started using http://www.dooster.net which has tidied us all up. If Wunderlist is anything as good as Dooster which also syncs with mobile devices then go get.
