Ten Minutes Separates You From $500!

We’re three weeks into Search for Research but it doesn’t end until May 7th, so if you’re wondering if it’s too late to get involved, wonder no more!  Follow these simple steps and you’ll be on your way to winning a BenchFly Microgrant in no time (translation: do this to win cash money!).

At the launch of Search for Research, we described how to install the toolbar that will drive the financing of the microgrants.  For a quick primer, check out these steps to download your Search for Research Toolbar.

OK, on to the good stuff – how to win the money!

.

Step 1. Think of a problem you’re facing in lab that at least $500 would help solve.

This could be a broken instrument that needs repair, software that needs purchasing, or Ramen noodles that need replacing…  It could be a project you’re currently working on or a crazy idea you’ve always wanted to try, but could never convince your PI to spend the money on.

.

Step 2. Head over to the BenchFly Facebook Page

If you’re not taken directly to the contest, click the “Contests” tab.

.

Step 3. Enter by describing your problem and solution in 100 words or less by May 7th.

You read that right- 100 words or less.  Who’s got time these days for paperwork?!  Not you.  Make it entertaining, serious or funny- it’s up to you!  The goal is to write an engaging entry that others will want to vote for.  For great examples, click “Vote Now” and read some of the entries with the most votes.

.

Step 4. Get your friends, family, labmates to vote for your entry once a day!

We’re going to assume those people above are not all the same group… so the more of them you reach out to, the better.  Since votes are cumulative, earlier entries have more time to collect votes.

.

Step 5. Wait by the mailbox for your check!

It’s true- we’ll send the winner(s) a check directly!  No paperwork to fill out, no grants administrator to deal with, no red tape to cut through.  Just cash.  We want to enable your research, not drown it in paperwork!

.

Thanks for participating in Search for Research and we hope to be cutting you a check soon!
